A family mourning the loss of their son has shared distressing video footage of his tragic assault today, aiming to prevent another unnecessary death.
Luke Thompson, aged 25, passed away after Dylan Maxwell struck him in a confrontation, leading to fatal head injuries. Thompson sustained a fractured skull and brain bleeding before succumbing to his injuries in the hospital ten days later.
Following Maxwell’s 11-year manslaughter sentence, Mr. Thompson’s family honored the father of two and urged viewers to watch the harrowing footage of the incident. Luke’s sister Denise emphasized the importance of showcasing the video to raise awareness about the lethal consequences of a single punch.
Maxwell, a 28-year-old doorman, was found guilty of manslaughter after the incident in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, on November 19, 2023, and sentenced to 13 years and 10 months in prison.
The heart-wrenching CCTV footage of Luke’s final moments, displayed during the trial, has now been made public by his loved ones to caution others. The video captures the tragic sequence where Maxwell confronts Mr. Thompson on a street, leading to a fatal altercation that leaves the young father unconscious on the road.
During sentencing, Judge Robin Mairs condemned Maxwell’s callous act of leaving Luke incapacitated on the roadside, highlighting the malicious nature of the attack. The judge emphasized that Luke posed no threat to Maxwell and condemned the unnecessary violence inflicted by the defendant.
Luke, who was expecting his third child at the time of the assault, tragically missed the birth of his son, further deepening the pain for his family. Maxwell, described as a “street-level dealer,” also faced charges related to drug offenses.
