A family on vacation in Dubai found themselves stranded in a windowless hotel after military actions were initiated in response to escalating tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran. Glyn Tookey, 57, along with his wife and young son, were in Abu Dhabi before moving to Dubai on February 27 for a holiday. As they settled in by the pool, the conflict erupted, leading to Iran launching missiles at neighboring countries, including Dubai, prompting the family to remain indoors.
Tookey described hearing loud explosions, initially mistaking them for fireworks, before witnessing missiles and ground-to-air firing later on. Along with other residents, they received urgent alerts to seek shelter, resulting in their flight home being canceled, leaving them confined to a hotel in Jumeirah without windows. Despite the situation, the hotel’s restaurants remained open, but uncertainty loomed over their return as they awaited further instructions.
The family, among many other stranded Brits, faced challenges in arranging a return flight, with the first chartered flight encountering delays in Muscat. Efforts are ongoing to repatriate British citizens, with thousands registered for updates and potential future flights, including those facilitated by British Airways.
