Nigel Farage is under pressure to address his silence following a statement made by a Reform MP expressing frustration over advertisements featuring Black and Asian individuals. Anna Turley, head of the Labour Party, has written to Farage questioning his lack of response to Sarah Pochin’s remarks on Talk TV. Pochin, a Member of Parliament for Runcorn and Helsby, voiced her discontent with ads showcasing non-white people, calling it infuriating.
Turley condemned Pochin’s comments as racist and called out Farage for not taking action. Health Secretary Wes Streeting labeled Pochin’s words as disgraceful and criticized Farage for his quiet stance on the issue. Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy urged Farage to dismiss Pochin due to her racially insensitive remarks.
Pochin later apologized for any offense caused by her statement but maintained that many adverts are not representative of British society. Streeting suggested that Pochin’s apology was insincere, emphasizing the need for accountability.
Lammy expressed his disgust over Pochin’s comments, emphasizing the importance of unity and respecting the contributions of diverse communities in the UK. He called for immediate action from Farage in response to the situation. The Mirror has reached out to Reform UK for comments on the matter.
In a separate letter addressed to Nigel Farage, Anna Turley highlighted the need for clarity on Reform’s stance in light of Sarah Pochin’s controversial remarks. Turley urged Farage to take a firm stand against racism by withdrawing support from Pochin. She emphasized the urgency of the situation and awaited a prompt response from Farage.
Anna Turley MP, Chair of the Labour Party, signed the letter seeking accountability and decisive action in the aftermath of the incident.
