Shocking video captured a harrowing incident where vacationers found themselves in a life-threatening situation at sea following a collision between a speedboat and a fishing trawler near the popular Phi-Phi Islands in Thailand. The crash resulted in all 52 individuals onboard, comprising both passengers and crew, being thrown into the water. Tragically, one tourist, believed to be an 18-year-old Russian woman, lost her life in the accident.
A large-scale rescue operation was swiftly initiated as distressing images depicted the stranded holidaymakers and crew struggling to stay afloat in the sea. Eyewitnesses recounted the chaotic and frantic scenes that transpired off the Phi-Phi Islands early one Sunday morning. Passengers were heard shouting and scrambling to assist their loved ones and fellow travelers in remaining above water following the collision involving the Korawich Marine 888 tourist vessel.
Reports described a scene of chaos and anguish as people clung to each other, with some desperately trying to rescue their companions from the water. Disturbing visuals showed individuals’ heads bobbing in the water as they cried out for help, while the front portion of the speedboat was severely damaged from the impact of the crash in the Andaman Sea.
Further images revealed other tourists struggling to pull themselves onto the damaged boat in a last-ditch effort to escape the water before authorities arrived. The collision occurred in the vicinity of Koh Gai Island, near the Phi Phi Islands, within the waters between Phuket and Krabi, according to Thai officials and local reports.
After the incident, all passengers from the distressed tourist vessel were promptly rescued from the water and brought ashore, although several visitors sustained injuries, with at least one individual initially reported to be in critical condition and rushed to Phi Phi Hospital for urgent medical attention. The deceased Russian woman, Elizaveta S, was among those tragically affected by the sea disaster.
Emergency responders treated the remaining injured individuals on-site before transferring them to hospitals in Phuket for further evaluation. Thai authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, focusing on factors such as speed, visibility, and navigation practices at the time of the collision.
Officials confirmed that the fishing trawler Pichai Samut 1 did not sustain damage, while the speedboat experienced significant structural failure as a result of the accident.
