Fatal Collision on Rain-Drenched Road in Romania

Horrific video footage captured the moment a truck skidded on a rain-drenched road, colliding with a car and trapping two individuals inside.

The car’s driver, aged 42, and the passenger, aged 39, tragically lost their lives in the incident that occurred on a section of the DN2/E85 road between Cristești and Drăgușeni in Iași County, northeastern Romania, on a Friday afternoon. The lorry’s trailer slid, swung across the road, and obstructed both lanes. Despite the car driver’s attempts to brake, the trailer toppled over and crushed the vehicle.

The scene was attended by 13 firefighters who utilized two specialized vehicles equipped with extraction tools, a SMURD ambulance, and teams from the Suceava and Iași County Ambulance Services, as reported by Romanian TV channel Digi24.

Reports indicate that four individuals were involved in the accident. The 54-year-old lorry driver underwent a breathalyzer test, which showed no presence of alcohol in his system, according to the police. Following a medical evaluation, he declined hospitalization.

The Iași County Police Inspectorate issued a statement saying: “On October 24, at approximately 2:55 pm, the Pașcani Road Bureau police officers were informed via 112 about a road traffic collision with casualties in Cristești on DN2/E85.”

“Subsequent investigations revealed that a 54-year-old man from Bistrița-Năsăud County lost control of his lorry with a trailer while driving from Drăgușeni to Cristești. The lorry overturned on the road and collided with a car driven by a 42-year-old man from Suceava County.”

A criminal inquiry for manslaughter has been initiated, and further investigations are ongoing to ascertain the complete causes and details of the crash.
