An XL bully dog that fatally attacked a man will be put down following a court order in Glasgow. The victim, Scott Samson, was discovered dead in a gruesome scene at his home in Rutherglen, near Glasgow, last March, alongside the dog he was looking after. It remains unclear whether the 38-year-old man was killed by the animal or died from natural causes, as per the inconclusive post-mortem report.
After nearly a year of the dog being cared for at a specialized kennel in Scotland, a decision was made by the Glasgow Sheriff Court to euthanize the animal. Police have reportedly spent close to £50,000 on the dog’s upkeep in approved kennels.
Although the dog was confirmed by experts to be an unregistered XL bully, no criminal charges will be filed against anyone involved. The dog, originally belonging to Neal Stark from Rutherglen, was given to a friend while Stark served time for drug offenses. The friend then entrusted the dog to Scott before the tragic incident.
Scott’s mother, Morag, expressed her anger at not being informed about the dog’s involvement in her son’s death earlier. She discovered the grim truth only after receiving the post-mortem report weeks after Scott’s funeral. The dog, now under police care, was initially reported to her as an accidental drug overdose victim, but further investigation revealed the possibility of a fatal dog attack.
Morag recalled the distressing scene of finding her son’s lifeless body and the aggressive dog in the house. Despite initial difficulties in removing the dog, authorities have now secured a destruction order for the animal to be euthanized by a veterinarian, closing this tragic chapter.
