An explosion that resulted in the deaths of a woman and a man in Bristol is suspected to be a grenade attack carried out by the woman’s ex-partner. The identities of the victims have not been disclosed yet. The incident, which occurred on a quiet street, also left the woman’s son and two other family members with minor injuries, who have since been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment.
Prior to the explosion, the police had been called to the location due to a domestic-related incident. Witnesses in the neighborhood reported feeling their homes shake when the blast occurred early on Sunday morning. Friends of the victim, who worked at a tanning salon, expressed their sorrow and described her as an exceptional woman.
Following the incident, law enforcement officers and emergency services swiftly responded to the scene on Sterncourt Road. While authorities stated that they were not seeking any suspects in connection with the explosion, they emphasized that the investigation was in its preliminary stages. Superintendent Matt Ebbs issued a statement indicating that the explosion was being treated as suspicious and extended condolences to the families of the deceased.
For public safety, a cordon was established around the area, and specialized searches were conducted by the British Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit as a precautionary measure. Residents within the cordon were evacuated to a temporary rest center, and cooperation from the public was appreciated. The authorities estimated that the cordon would likely remain in place until the evening, with updates being provided as necessary. The main priority emphasized was ensuring public safety, with plans to lift the cordon once it was deemed safe for residents to return home.
