A woman convicted of fatally poisoning her longtime boyfriend with eye drops faces spending the rest of her life in prison after her deceitful actions were brought to light.
Marcy L. Oglesby, aged 53, has been imprisoned for the deliberate killing of her partner, Richard “Rick” Young, a former police chief, by poisoning him over time and then concealing his body in a storage unit. A judge sentenced her to 50 years in prison for murder and aggravated battery, with credit given for the 326 days she spent in pretrial detention.
The conclusion of this disturbing legal saga began when Oglesby murdered Young in the fall of 2021. Prosecutors emphasized that she not only ended the life of a man who had been devoted to her for nearly three decades but also callously watched him suffer as a result of her actions.
Young’s remains were found on October 7, 2022, inside a storage unit rented by Oglesby in Maquon, Illinois. Despite the initial legal challenges, including charges of concealment of a non-homicidal death, the case eventually progressed to murder charges after a series of legal maneuvers and a confession from a person named Karen Doubet, a resident with the couple.
Doubet admitted that Oglesby had poisoned Young’s food and beverages with eye drops and crushed medication over a prolonged period. Subsequent investigations uncovered significant evidence in the couple’s home, including numerous discarded eye drop bottles and a pill crusher.
After a trial where Oglesby maintained her innocence, she was found guilty by Judge Doyle in a swift deliberation. Prosecutors revealed that the poisoning began in the summer of 2021 and continued until early November that year. Despite her denial, the court’s ruling sealed Oglesby’s fate, likely ensuring she will spend the remainder of her days behind bars.
