A man in Florida, identified as James Westervelt, has confessed to police that he took pleasure in using a leaf blower to torment his own infant son. This disturbing behavior occurred multiple times, leading up to the tragic death of the child at just six months old.
Westervelt admitted to authorities that he found amusement in using the powerful gardening tool on his son, with one instance of abuse happening when the child was only two months old. The distress caused by the leaf blower left the baby struggling to breathe.
The infant, whose identity has not been disclosed, passed away in August 2024 after being hospitalized and placed on life support. Medical professionals determined that the baby had suffered blunt force trauma, potentially inflicted by the father during the leaf blower incidents.
Furthermore, police have uncovered video footage showing Westervelt recklessly directing air from the leaf blower at the boy in a separate incident before the fatal one. Consequently, Westervelt now faces a first-degree murder charge in addition to existing child abuse charges.
This tragic case follows another heart-wrenching incident where a toddler lost his life after being left unattended in a scalding hot bath by his mother’s boyfriend. The neglectful actions of the boyfriend led to severe burns on the child, which were inadequately treated with over-the-counter ointment, ultimately resulting in the boy’s death.
