Police apprehended a female suspect for alleged arson following a significant wildfire outbreak near Dovestone Reservoir. The blaze ignited at the scenic location on Saturday, July 11, around 8:30 pm, prompting a major emergency response.
Around 50 firefighters and 10 fire engines are anticipated to persist in extinguishing the fire in the upcoming days. Greater Manchester Police disclosed that their Neighbourhood Policing Team detained a 20-year-old woman on suspicion of arson and she is currently in custody for interrogation.
Authorities cautioned the public against sharing social media posts related to the incident. While the fire’s origin remains unconfirmed, online videos suggest individuals setting off fireworks in the vicinity before the fire erupted.
