Fergie expressed regret and offered an apology to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender, in an email dated April 26, 2011. This action came shortly after she publicly distanced herself from him. The email, reported by The Sun newspaper, showcased her humbly apologizing for associating Epstein with pedophilia in the media and praising him as a loyal and generous friend.
Her spokesperson explained that the email was sent under the guidance to address Epstein’s threats of legal action. In a separate interview with the Evening Standard in March 2011, Fergie admitted her error in accepting money from Epstein and vowed to sever all ties with him.
Subsequent reports revealed a follow-up email from Fergie to Epstein, where she expressed fear and remorse, stating that she was advised to stay away from him to avoid causing more trouble for herself, Epstein, and the Duke of York. The email emphasized her anxiety and apologies for any distress caused.
Epstein, who faced sex-trafficking charges, was found dead in his prison cell in August 2019, in what was ruled as a suicide. Fergie’s spokesperson reiterated her condemnation of Epstein’s actions and emphasized her immediate disassociation once she became aware of the gravity of the allegations against him.
