Zero, a fintech banking app, has announced the discontinuation of its services, prompting thousands of customers to transfer their funds to alternative accounts. The closure of the Zero Sustainable Money App will impact users with a Zero Personal Account, Zero Debit Mastercard, or Planet Safe Saver.
According to MoneySavingExpert.com, Zero has 21,500 registered users, with only 7,500 actively using the app. All customers have received emails from Zero detailing the necessary steps to be taken. While the app is set to operate until March 31, there is a possibility of an earlier closure.
MSE advises users to withdraw their funds before the app’s closure on March 31. Funds not withdrawn will be held for six years, with access possible by contacting zero@transactpay.com. Customers with savings accounts will have their funds transferred to their Zero personal accounts for subsequent transfer to another account.
Zero Sustainable Money App, established in Cardiff in 2023 and publicly launched in January 2025, is shutting down due to unsuccessful fundraising attempts. The app’s LinkedIn page confirms the closure, citing the inability to secure additional capital or find a buyer.
The app’s standout feature, GreenScore, assessed users’ spending habits to determine their sustainability level. Zero aimed to raise awareness of the environmental impact of spending habits at its inception. Richard Theo, co-founder and CEO of Zero, envisioned a financial ecosystem that promotes environmental welfare, distancing from activities harmful to the planet.
Zero strived to bridge digital banking with sustainable practices for a more eco-conscious consumer base.
