“Flight Chaos in Asia: Major Airlines Cancel Hundreds”

Date:

Passengers found themselves stranded as a significant number of flights were canceled by four major airlines, causing delays. Nearly 500 flights were impacted by delays at airports in Asia due to issues faced by Capital Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, China Eastern Airlines, and Pakistan International Airlines. In addition, a total of 23 flights were collectively canceled by these airlines across various Asian airports, including Shanghai Pudong and Islamabad International Airport.

The delays led to various issues for passengers, such as missed connections and lengthy disruptions, with overcrowded waiting areas and long queues reported at Shanghai and Beijing airports. Concurrently, Aer Lingus is anticipated to cancel approximately 500 flights due to necessary maintenance on aircraft, affecting their planned summer schedule.

An Aer Lingus spokesperson informed RSVP Live that the airline is adjusting its schedule to accommodate mandatory maintenance requirements and making limited schedule changes. Passengers affected by these adjustments are being rebooked on same-day services whenever possible.

Earlier warnings from Ryanair’s chief, Michael O’Leary, suggested that flight cancellations might occur during the summer due to rising jet fuel costs. O’Leary indicated that up to 10% of flights in the coming months could be impacted, although he humorously suggested blaming Trump rather than the airlines in case of cancellations.

Meanwhile, Air Canada is set to suspend services to New York’s JFK International Airport during the summer due to jet fuel shortages caused by the conflict in Iran. Flights from Toronto and Montreal to JFK will halt from June 1 and resume on October 25, while services to LaGuardia and Newark airports will continue as usual. Affected customers will be contacted by Air Canada to offer alternative travel options amid the temporary suspension.

The Montreal-based carrier explained that doubling jet fuel prices since the Iran conflict began have made some routes and flights financially unsustainable, leading to necessary schedule adjustments.
