A man, aged 26, has been apprehended on suspicion of the homicide of Ann Widdecombe, a former Conservative MP. Widdecombe, aged 78, was discovered with severe injuries in her bungalow near Dartmoor, Devon, covered in blood with at least one serious head injury. The cause of death has not been confirmed by authorities.
Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman stated that there is no indication of a political motive behind the murder, and it is too early to determine if the suspect had any prior connection with Widdecombe. The suspect, a white British national, was taken into custody in Newton Abbott, approximately eight miles from the crime scene. The investigation is not being treated as terrorism-related.
