The Ottawa Rapid have introduced Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. This decision comes following the announcement by current head coach Katrine Pedersen of her departure from the Northern Super League leaders at the season’s end.
Moscato, a distinguished member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, boasts an impressive soccer career that includes three Women’s World Cup appearances and a bronze medal win at the 2012 Olympics. With coaching experience in Denmark, Mexico, and most recently Saudi Arabia, she brings a wealth of knowledge to her new role.
The Rapid have signed Moscato on a two-season contract, where she will commence her duties this year, focusing on preparations for the 2027 season, including player recruitment. Team CEO Thomas Gilbert expressed confidence in Moscato’s leadership, coaching prowess, and understanding of Canadian soccer, emphasizing her valuable contributions to the team.
Moscato expressed her excitement about joining the Rapid, acknowledging the strong foundation laid by the team and expressing her commitment to further enhancing player performance, development, and competitiveness. Ottawa currently leads the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 matches, with their last defeat dating back to late May.
