Formula 1 teams have entered their mandated summer break, which officially started on Monday, August 11. During this 14-day period, strict regulations prohibit any Formula 1-related activities, including work on car performance, such as wind tunnels, simulators, and design modifications. Violating these rules can lead to severe penalties.
Despite the shutdown, non-performance staff like those in marketing and legal departments can continue working. Maintenance tasks like deep cleaning and servicing essential systems in factories are permitted. These measures aim to control costs under the budget cap and prioritize staff well-being in a demanding racing season with numerous events across the globe.
The break ends on Sunday, August 24, just before the Dutch Grand Prix. Following this, teams will gear up for the next phase of the season with 10 race weekends in a span of 15 weeks. Another mandatory shutdown occurs after the season’s end, allowing staff to rest and celebrate the festive season before gearing up for the next racing year.
