Following a tragic fatal car crash, police have arrested four individuals in connection with the incident.
The arrests were made during raids conducted by officers investigating the collision that occurred on Wigan Road in Bolton on January 11. A 42-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man were taken into custody on suspicion of fraud offenses.
Additionally, a 22-year-old man was arrested for suspicion of handling stolen goods, while an 18-year-old male was apprehended on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, as confirmed by a spokesperson from Greater Manchester Police. All four suspects are currently being questioned after being detained.
The fatal crash involved a head-on collision between a red Seat Leon and a Citroen C4 Picasso taxi, resulting in the deaths of four individuals. The victims included Mohammed Jibrael Mukhtar, 18, the driver of the Seat, passengers Farhan Imtiyaz Patel, 18, and Mohammed-Danyaal Asghar-Ali, 19, as well as the taxi driver, 54-year-old Masrob Ali, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Five passengers, four from the taxi and one from the Seat, were hospitalized following the crash. An update from the GMP spokesperson revealed that a woman who sustained life-threatening injuries is now in a stable condition.
Detective Inspector Andrew Page, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, stated, “Our investigation into this tragic incident is progressing, leading to four arrests in Bolton today following two warrants.”
“Significant prevention measures have been implemented across Bolton with local PCSOs providing community reassurance and assistance for any public inquiries,” he added.
Appealing for witnesses to come forward, Detective Inspector Page urged anyone with information or footage related to the incident to contact the authorities directly or provide it to Crimestoppers anonymously.
In response to the tragic event, a fundraiser has been initiated to support the injured taxi passengers, aiming to alleviate immediate financial burdens not covered by insurance and ease the families’ financial strain.
The daughter of Masrob Ali, the deceased taxi driver, described him as a loving and hard-working father, emphasizing his kindness and devotion. She expressed deep sorrow over his loss.
The family of Mohammed-Danyaal Asghar-Ali, one of the deceased Seat passengers, conveyed their devastation over the loss of their loved one, extending condolences to all affected families in a heartfelt tribute released through GMP.
