Izabel Rose found herself confined in a solitary cell in a Japanese prison, reminiscent of a typical scenario for a drug addict. Despite her professional facade as a 26-year-old marketing graduate, she had been struggling with drug addiction, a fact she had been overlooking. Initially, she believed she had her addiction under control and just needed a break, leading her to plan a trip to Japan, intending to visit Tokyo and then Osaka, known as ‘Japan’s kitchen.’
Having started experimenting with drugs in her late teens, Izabel gradually fell into a dangerous addiction over the years, spending a significant amount daily on ketamine. The drug, which initially provided a sense of euphoria, eventually turned into a daily necessity, with terrifying withdrawal symptoms when not consumed. Despite trying to mask the side effects with more ketamine to maintain her functionality, the drug’s grip on her mental and physical health grew stronger over time.
Facing debilitating symptoms and health issues due to her addiction, including excruciating pain and severe withdrawal episodes, Izabel’s attempt to escape her lifestyle by traveling to Japan only led to her downfall. Her decision to engage in drug transactions while abroad resulted in her arrest and subsequent detention in Osaka, where she endured harsh conditions and struggled with ketamine withdrawals.
After cooperating with authorities, Izabel was eventually charged with drug importation, given a suspended sentence, and allowed to return home. Grateful for a second chance at life, she now shares her story to raise awareness about the dangers of addiction, particularly highlighting the prevalence of ketamine abuse and the need for more support and education to combat it effectively.
Despite ongoing cravings and challenges in her recovery journey, Izabel remains committed to advocating for better support for drug users and hopes to inspire others to seek help and overcome addiction. Her firsthand experience with the destructive nature of ketamine has fueled her determination to make a positive impact and prevent others from falling into the same trap.
