A man who was once known as “Britain’s naughtiest youngster” is now making £360,000 annually by operating a personal development school in Thailand.
Tom Roberts, originally from Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, has transformed his life after a troubled past that led to a term in a young offenders institution for grievous bodily harm. Inspired by self-help books and guidance from wellness coaches like Bob Proctor, he founded his own personal development school, Generation I, in Koh Samui, Thailand.
Despite his tumultuous past, which included appearing on Channel 4’s Mr Drew’s School For Boys at 11 years old after being expelled from primary school for inappropriate behavior towards a headteacher, Tom has turned his life around. He now uses his experiences to motivate his clients to make positive choices.
Reflecting on his journey, Tom acknowledges the challenges he faced and the negative label he was given as a troubled youth. He emphasizes the importance of personal growth and helping others avoid the same mistakes he made. Tom’s school, Generation I, boasts more than 240 clients globally and generates a monthly income of £30,000.
Having overcome personal struggles, including the loss of his father to alcoholism, Tom now finds fulfillment in guiding others towards self-improvement. He describes his role as an entrepreneur shaping lives positively, akin to a therapist, and highlights the message of hope and resilience by stating, “You are not defined by your past, and I’m living proof that one can always turn over a new leaf. Never lose hope.”
During his time on Mr Drew’s School For Boys, Tom exhibited challenging behavior, leading to further expulsions. Despite his troubled past, he successfully completed his education at a special school, Archers Brook, in Ellesmere Port, passing all his GCSEs.
