A tragic incident unfolded as a two-year-old girl fell to her death from an 11th-floor apartment while her father was reportedly unconscious due to excessive drinking. Isidora Constanzo tragically passed away during a court-approved visitation supervised by her father, Jorge José Francisco Constanzo Chávez. Reports indicate that Jorge had been celebrating on Saturday night and returned home around 6 am the following day. Despite being almost an hour late to pick up his daughter, he proceeded with their scheduled visitation.
After consuming alcohol with his partner and daughter, Jorge fell into a deep sleep at their residence in Santiago, Chile. Unfortunately, during this time, Isidora managed to fall from an open bedroom window, leading to her fatal injuries. Emergency responders arrived promptly, but Isidora was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities faced challenges in determining the exact location from which Isidora fell, requiring a thorough search of the building. Jorge, who was visibly intoxicated, was eventually awakened about 40 minutes after the tragic incident. He is now facing charges of homicide by omission for his alleged negligence in ensuring the safety of the window, as agreed upon in the custody arrangement.
Prosecutors highlighted the preventable nature of the tragedy, emphasizing that the father should have taken necessary precautions to secure the window. Following a court appearance, Jorge was placed in preventive custody. Isidora’s mother, Gloria Ortiz, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of her daughter, emphasizing the devastating impact of the incident.
Authorities have announced plans to investigate the consumption of alcohol during the period leading up to the tragedy, as the events unfolded during a reported party that spanned from Saturday evening into Sunday.
