“Global Animal Cruelty Network Unearthed by BBC”

Date:

A sinister network of individuals is discovered operating underground on the internet, profiting from the brutal abuse of defenseless animals, including incidents of beatings, acid attacks, and blending. Following an undercover investigation by the BBC, at least 20 individuals globally are under scrutiny for their involvement in a disturbing animal cruelty ring. This group, which included two British women, facilitated the killing and torture of baby monkeys in Indonesia through a private online platform.

Adriana Orme and Holly LeGresley, aged 56 and 37 respectively, faced legal consequences in 2024 after pleading guilty to charges related to monkey cruelty. Orme, from Upton-upon-Severn, Worcestershire, confessed to uploading multiple videos depicting the torture of monkeys, causing them unnecessary pain. LeGresley, known as ‘The Immolater’ online, received a two-year prison sentence for sharing videos and images of monkey torture and supporting cruelty through financial transactions.

Judge James Burbidge KC condemned Orme and LeGresley, emphasizing their inexplicable involvement in a chat group that promoted the abuse of monkeys by offenders in Indonesia. The shocking revelations from a year-long investigation by the BBC in June 2023 exposed a global network dedicated to torturing baby monkeys, with a notorious figure named Mini at its center. The network’s origins on YouTube led to a transition to private groups on Telegram to cater to demands for more extreme abuse.

One key figure, Mr. Ape, identified as a university graduate living in Florida, played a significant role in orchestrating the distribution of distressing footage and soliciting donations for video production within the cruel network. The investigation also uncovered the involvement of individuals like Stacey Storey, who operated as a ‘video operator’ sharing gruesome content involving animal torture for a fee. Despite efforts to expand the network, some infiltrators from animal welfare backgrounds emerged to expose the horrifying activities.

These revelations led to arrests and legal actions against several perpetrators, including M Ajis Rasjana and Asep Yadi Nurul Hikmah, involved in animal torture crimes. The findings shed light on the widespread availability of animal torture videos on social platforms like Facebook and Telegram, prompting responses from tech companies to address such content. The disturbing content circulated openly on these platforms, raising concerns among animal welfare advocates like Sarah Kite from Action for Primates.
