“Globally, Countries Offer Incentives for Relocation”

Date:

The trend of ‘Pay to move’ initiatives is gaining traction globally, with various countries introducing tailored programs to entice individuals to relocate to areas facing declining populations and economic challenges.

In 2026, five countries are offering incentives for individuals to move, providing an opportunity for those looking for a fresh start and meeting specific criteria to consider their options seriously.

These attractive relocation schemes aim to boost the local population and rejuvenate the economy in regions with aging workforces, as reported by the Express.

Since 2018, Albinen, a charming mountain village in Switzerland, has been luring residents with appealing incentives to relocate.

The program offers up to 25,000 Swiss francs for adults (approximately £23,600 in 2026) and up to 10,000 Swiss francs for children (around £9,400) to encourage people to move to this rural setting.

For instance, a family of two adults and one child could receive a total of 70,000 Swiss francs (roughly £66,100) to support their relocation and settlement in the village.

Applicants must be under 45 years old, commit to residing in Albinen for at least a decade, own or build a property valued at 200,000 Swiss francs or more, and hold Swiss citizenship or a C Residence Permit.

Albinen, known for its scenic beauty, offers limited amenities, as described by the former Mayor, Nicole Köppel, emphasizing the village’s simplicity and lifestyle.

Chile is enticing tech-focused start-ups with equity-free grants up to £74,000 to establish operations in the country, aiming to boost economic growth and attract international talent.

The initiative offers a two-year work visa and various support services, including office space, mentoring, funding, and networking opportunities, to foster business development in Chile.

While the focus is on entrepreneurship rather than individual migration, the program has successfully enticed numerous founders and start-ups to establish a presence in Chile.

Sardinia, an Italian island, is combatting population decline by offering grants to individuals willing to relocate to smaller settlements with fewer than 3,000 inhabitants, providing financial support for home purchase or renovation.

The scheme includes incentives for families, such as monthly payments for children, aimed at encouraging long-term residency and community integration.
