“Greenland resident issues stern warning to UK in support of US takeover”

Date:

A resident of Greenland has issued a stern warning to the United Kingdom in support of Trump’s push for the United States to take over the Danish territory, citing the country’s proximity to civil unrest.

Jorgen Boassen, a 51-year-old bricklaying business owner and self-proclaimed “revolutionary,” is part of a small group advocating for Greenland to come under US control.

Boassen actively promotes the “Make Greenland American” campaign, though he acknowledges that his activism has strained his personal relationships with his fiancée and daughter.

Despite President Trump’s assertions that the acquisition would enhance security and be a smooth process for the US, he has encountered strong opposition. Greenland’s resolute Prime Minister has criticized the US leader for his aggressive tactics.

With a population of fewer than 60,000 people, Greenland is an autonomous region within the Kingdom of Denmark, holding strategic significance for NATO and the EU. However, internal tensions are escalating. Boassen reveals that his relatives strongly oppose his pro-US stance, and his partner was allegedly dismissed from her long-standing position with Air Greenland, a Danish airline, shortly after he participated in events supporting Trump in Washington.

Boassen paints a picture of fear permeating Greenland, with families torn apart and altercations erupting in bars. He laments the impact on his bricklaying business, which has suffered due to being ostracized, mirroring the fate of other enterprises showing solidarity with Trump. Feeling isolated, Boassen remains in Copenhagen as locals fear association with him, highlighting the prevailing atmosphere of apprehension.

Expressing concern over the escalating tensions, Boassen warns of a potential civil war in Greenland, attributing the mounting pressure to Danish dominance over local businesses. Noting the widespread gun ownership for hunting purposes, he cautions that the region is armed for conflict, directing a pointed message to the Prime Minister and urging caution from the EU and the UK before intervening.

While Denmark and Greenland affirm that the island is not up for sale, the dispute has strained US-European relations, with Denmark’s prime minister cautioning that a US acquisition could jeopardize NATO.

During a phone conversation with Donald Trump, Sir Keir Starmer articulated his stance on Greenland, emphasizing that its fate should be determined solely by Greenland and Denmark, a sentiment he reiterated in the Commons earlier on Wednesday.
