The store, catered to the local environment, will offer British tourists a taste of home with specialties like Spanish Omelette Rolls and freshly squeezed orange juice. Seating for up to 92 patrons will be available at the new location.
Known for seeking familiar comforts while traveling, British holidaymakers will soon have access to their beloved sausage rolls at Tenerife South Airport. With over 2,500 locations in the UK, Greggs views the airport as an ideal testing ground for expansion overseas. The move follows the success of Wetherspoons, which recently opened its first pub in continental Europe at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport.
Attracting around 13 million passengers annually, half of whom are traveling to or from the UK, Tenerife South Airport presents a prime opportunity for Greggs to showcase its popular baked goods and confections to tourists. CEO Roisin Currie expressed enthusiasm about introducing a taste of home to the Canary Islands, confident that the brand’s affordable offerings will resonate with Spanish consumers.
Positioned in the departures area, the bakery aims to provide travelers with a comforting experience before departing for the UK, offering an affordable way to wrap up their trip. This venture is a collaboration with Lagardère Travel Retail, a global operator of over 5,000 stores. Lagardère CEO Javier Cagigal highlighted the joy of bringing a beloved British brand to Tenerife, emphasizing the new store’s role in providing passengers with familiar and soothing options before their journey home.
