Grieving Family Seeks Answers After Son’s Tragic Death

Date:

A grieving family is seeking answers following the death of their son, who passed away 25 years after receiving intensive treatment that ultimately led to his demise.

Collin Junior Lou Macari Stoke City Price, named in honor of his father’s love for the football club, succumbed to his illness at the young age of 27. Diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor at the age of two due to developmental delays, seizures, and lethargy, Collin was found to be suffering from a medulloblastoma, a rapidly developing tumor located in the cerebellum, a critical region of the brain responsible for coordinating movement.

Despite undergoing a rigorous treatment involving surgery and radiation therapy, unforeseen complications arose years later. In January 2024, Collin was hospitalized at the Royal Stoke University Hospital after experiencing seizures, leading to the discovery of another brain tumor. The medical reports revealed a glioblastoma, attributed to the radiation treatment he received as a child, with no chance of a cure. Collin passed away a year later at the Douglas Macmillan Hospice.

The family raises concerns that Collin’s repeated annual CT scans exposed him to unnecessary radiation, potentially contributing to the development of the second tumor. They believe that earlier detection could have prolonged Collin’s life and improved his quality of life.

While acknowledging the risks associated with CT scans, Dr. Adam Fullagar, a clinical oncologist at the Royal Stoke, stated that the childhood radiation treatment likely triggered the second tumor. The coroner, Andrew Barkley, concurred that the medical team acted in the best interest of Collin, with his death resulting from complications arising from essential medical interventions.

In a heartfelt tribute, Collin’s mother, Zoe Phillips, described him as a lively and helpful individual who brought joy wherever he went, emphasizing his resilience in the face of medical challenges.
