A man who gruesomely killed his wife shortly after their wedding was discovered deceased in a prison facility. Jared James Dicus, aged 24, confessed to the murder of his 21-year-old wife, Anggy Diaz, during a swift trial in 2024. He received a 40-year prison sentence, with the possibility of parole not until 2043.
Dicus and Anggy tied the knot in October 2022, raising concerns among friends who had noticed troubling aspects of their relationship. In January of the following year, Anggy’s mutilated body was found in the shower of their home, accompanied by a knife used in her decapitation.
Dicus was found dead by hanging in his cell at the Wainwright Unit in Houston County, Texas, according to reports from KLTV. Despite efforts by prison staff to revive him, emergency medical services pronounced him dead just before 11 pm.
Anggy’s remains were discovered by Dicus’s father on the same property where the couple resided. The gruesome finding prompted a call to authorities by Dicus’s parents, reporting a potential death at their location. The crime scene, located in a cabin about 60 miles outside Houston, depicted a scene of blood splatters.
Court documents revealed that Anggy was found with stab wounds on the floor near the bed, with her head located in the shower. Following the murder, Dicus was captured on surveillance footage at a local market, where he stole and consumed a can of beer.
An acquaintance of Anggy disclosed to The New York Post in 2023 that Dicus displayed signs of insecurity regarding their marriage, posting possessive content on social media. The friend recalled a Christmas party where Dicus appeared visibly upset and left abruptly.
Suspicions of domestic abuse arose posthumously, as Anggy’s friend believed she may have been reluctant to disclose any issues in her relationship. Law enforcement confirmed having received disturbance calls related to the couple previously, although the severity of Anggy’s murder was unprecedented.
Anggy had expressed aspirations of starting a family, but her friend advised caution in rushing into parenthood with Dicus. Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicated a concerning prevalence of intimate partner violence leading to homicide.
