Police in Mexico were shocked to find dismembered remains of three men inside six plastic bags dumped in a commercial complex in the Acapulco Diamante region of Guerrero state. The discovery was made following reports and tips from the Playa Dinamita area on January 9. Authorities confirmed that the bags contained the heads and limbs of the victims, adding to the string of similar cases in Guerrero.
The bodies were taken to a morgue in El Quemado, but as of now, none of the victims have been identified. This incident follows a previous discovery in Acapulco in April 2025 when plastic bags holding the remains of a single victim were found. The National Guard, State Police, Navy, and forensic specialists from the State Attorney General’s office were involved in collecting the bags containing the victim’s dismembered body parts.
Reports indicated that a threatening note was found near the body, potentially linked to an unidentified criminal group. In a separate incident, 11 murdered victims were found in Tecoanapa municipality due to clashes between rival gangs. Previous decapitations in Guerrero have been associated with the “La Barredora” gang, with one instance involving six severed heads and a note signed by the group.
The recent discovery of heads on a road between Puebla and Tlaxcala raised concerns as these states are not commonly associated with cartel violence. While a motive for the killings remains unclear, a threatening note left at the scene was believed to be a warning from La Barredora to rival gangs. Guerrero has a high rate of homicides in Mexico, mainly linked to drug trafficking, prompting warnings against non-essential travel to the state.
The escalation of violence in Guerrero led to Catholic bishops intervening in 2024 to facilitate a truce between warring cartels in the region.
