“Guatemala’s Volcán de Fuego Erupts Again”

Date:

A volcanic emergency has been declared following the sudden eruption of one of the most hazardous volcanoes in Central America. Volcán de Fuego, known for its high activity and unpredictability, began erupting in Guatemala on Monday morning, escalating throughout the day with the release of lava, ash, and smoke into the atmosphere.

In response, authorities triggered the country’s second-highest emergency warning and promptly initiated the evacuation of residents from the affected area. The Guatemalan disaster agency, Conred, announced a nationwide orange alert due to the volcanic eruption, evacuating two nearby villages as a precaution.

Live coverage of the ongoing eruption of Volcán de Fuego is being broadcast by Guatemalan network Crelosa. Conred, the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction in Guatemala, confirmed the hazardous conditions in the region earlier today.

This eruption marks the third significant event in four years for the famously active Volcán de Fuego in Guatemala. Previous eruptions occurred in 2023, necessitating the evacuation of approximately 1,700 individuals, and in 2018, resulting in the tragic loss of 215 lives when lava engulfed a nearby village.
