Gray Narvaez-Dragion, a 19-year-old who prefers they/them pronouns, shared their distress on TikTok. In a video that garnered over eight million views, the heartbroken newlywed revealed that despite 88 people confirming, less than 40 actually attended.
The video also displayed the almost empty venue, with rows of tables set for guests who never appeared. Gray, from Iowa and known as @grayanxiety on TikTok, and their partner Nyx received an outpouring of sympathy from viewers, stating that they had to cancel various elements of their reception due to the low turnout.
Further videos showed the numerous RSVPs received by the couple and their reaction to the devastating situation. In one emotional video, Gray was shown with tear-stained makeup, expressing their sadness at the empty ceremony room.
The couple shared their efforts to make the event enjoyable for everyone, including personalized gifts and a planned sparkler send-off and private dance. They were disheartened by the lack of attendance despite the time and money spent on preparations.
The financial strain from the wedding costs has left the couple struggling, with Gray mentioning that they can no longer afford food after losing their job. Despite the hardship, many followers have offered to purchase wedding gifts for the couple to make up for the absent guests.
