A heartless couple neglected their infant, leaving the baby in excruciating pain with four leg fractures. Georgia Newbold, 29, and Kristjan Brawley, 34, were convicted of cruelly ignoring their vulnerable child’s suffering, refusing to seek medical help despite clear signs of agony. The pair opted to let the baby endure the pain at home instead of taking it to a hospital for treatment.
During the trial at Hull Crown Court, it was revealed that the couple deliberately kept the baby away from medical professionals, even skipping immunization appointments to conceal the injuries. Prosecutors stated that the baby endured four leg fractures in a span of six weeks, each requiring significant force and causing immense pain.
Brawley eventually took the baby to the hospital in November 2019, claiming he heard a crack when sitting on the child’s leg. However, further X-rays revealed older fractures that had been left untreated. The court emphasized that both parents ignored the baby’s suffering, failing to provide necessary medical care.
The prosecution highlighted the blatant disregard for the child’s welfare, emphasizing that the parents neglected their duty to seek treatment for the baby’s injuries. Despite their claims of innocence, the evidence pointed to their culpability in causing unnecessary suffering to the infant.
In sentencing, Judge Alexander Menary condemned the couple’s actions as deliberate neglect, sentencing Newbold to two-and-a-half years in prison and Brawley to two years and 10 months. The judge underscored that the neglect was intentional and unlikely to be the result of everyday handling of the baby. Reporting of the case was permitted to identify the victim as the couple’s child, emphasizing the severity of the offense.
