Police have discovered the body of a man in his 50s on the side of a road in Warwickshire. The man was found near Atherstone during the early hours of Friday.
Following the incident, law enforcement arrested a 23-year-old man from Nuneaton and a 74-year-old man from Shifnal on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, and leaving the scene of the accident. Both individuals have been released on bail as the investigation progresses.
Authorities have requested the public’s assistance in providing any CCTV, doorbell camera, or dashcam footage from the vicinity, with a specific interest in locating a ‘red Mercedes Vito van’ in the area around 1 am.
In a statement, Warwickshire Police stated that the body of the man was discovered in Monk’s Park Lane shortly after 1:30 am, with the primary investigation pointing towards a hit-and-run incident. The two suspects were apprehended a few hours later.
PC Craig Pearson from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit urged anyone with information or video footage of the red Mercedes Vito van to come forward. He also asked residents to review their surveillance footage for any relevant evidence.
The police expressed their condolences to the deceased man’s family and mentioned that they are receiving support from a designated family liaison officer.
