Home Bargains has announced that it will once again shut down for three days during the festive season. The popular discount retailer traditionally closes its stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day to allow its dedicated staff to rest and recharge. This year, all Home Bargains stores will also be closed on Christmas Day.
In a recent Facebook post, Home Bargains expressed gratitude towards its employees, stating, “Christmas announcement. All of our stores will be closing for Boxing Day & New Year’s Day.” The message continued, emphasizing the importance of taking a break and spending time with loved ones during the holiday season.
For the past five years, Home Bargains has adhered to the practice of closing on Boxing Day. The store typically operates until 8 pm on weekdays and Saturdays, with Sunday hours ending around 4 pm.
With over 600 stores across the UK, Home Bargains’ decision to close for the holidays has garnered positive feedback from both employees and customers. Many have praised the retailer for prioritizing staff well-being and family time during the festive period.
Additionally, Home Bargains recently implemented AI camera technology to enhance security measures at self-checkouts. This innovative system, developed in partnership with tech firms SAI and Everseen, aims to detect unscanned items and prevent theft by alerting staff to any irregularities during the checkout process.
The adoption of AI cameras is part of Home Bargains’ efforts to combat retail crime and ensure a secure shopping environment for customers. Operations director Paul Rowland highlighted the effectiveness of this technology in comparison to traditional security methods.
