Hotel faces court over young woman’s tragic death

Date:

The proprietors of a hotel are set to appear in court after a young woman’s tragic death. Liverpool City Council is taking legal action against Britannia Hotels following the demise of 21-year-old Chloe Haynes at the Adelphi Hotel in September 2022.

After Chloe was discovered deceased in her hotel room, an investigation was launched by the council. Although three men were initially arrested on suspicion of murder, they were later released without charges as the police determined her death to be accidental.

Liverpool City Council’s Environmental Health department conducted an investigation, which has now been completed, leading to the council’s decision to prosecute Britannia Hotels, as reported by Liverpool Echo.

A spokesperson for Liverpool City Council confirmed, “Following our investigation, we have chosen to pursue legal action.” Alleged health and safety violations have prompted legal proceedings against two Britannia Hotels entities, with a court date set for May 7 at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court.

In response to the situation, a Britannia Hotels spokesperson stated, “Liverpool City Council has initiated legal proceedings concerning the Adelphi Hotel, and we are cooperating fully with the legal process. Our thoughts are with the affected families at this time, and as the case is ongoing, we will refrain from further comments.”

In September 2022, Chloe’s mother, Nicola Williams, expressed her determination to uncover all details surrounding the loss of her “beautiful” daughter, known affectionately as “Birdy,” in such tragic circumstances.

Chloe, who had a twin brother and three other siblings, had traveled from Hafan y Mor Haven Holiday Park in Pwllheli, North Wales, where she was employed, to Liverpool for a night out. Sharing a room with a colleague at the hotel, Chloe was discovered by her colleague, who raised the alarm.

Describing the events, Ms. Williams explained, “Chloe and her friend went to the Adelphi after an evening out. By midnight, she was intoxicated, and her friend took her back to the hotel to rest. It appears she awoke disoriented, mistaking the wardrobe for an exit, leading to a tragic accident where the wardrobe fell on her, causing fatal injuries.”

Despite efforts from other guests to assist, it was too late to save Chloe. The investigation by Merseyside Police determined her death to be accidental, leading to the release of the three initially questioned men.

Ms. Williams fondly recalled Chloe’s love for animals, particularly her dog Archie, and her inner beauty, shaped by her humility and kindness.
