More than 100 individuals were evacuated following a fire that swept through a hotel in Malaga. The fire, which started around 1:25 am on Monday at the Ibis Hotel, caused visible smoke that could be seen from a distance. Witnesses observed flames originating in the hotel’s basement on Cerrojo Street with no reported injuries.
Reports from COPE Malaga indicated that the fire remained active, emitting thick smoke and a strong burning smell that spread across central Malaga. The fire likely originated at Le Grand Café Centro near the Guadalmedina River, subsequently engulfing a significant portion of the hotel’s interior.
Firefighting crews worked tirelessly to contain the blaze, which initially impacted the first floor before spreading further within the building, leading to flames emanating from hotel room windows. Residents throughout Malaga witnessed a large smoke plume from their residences.
In response to the incident, Malaga City Council announced the deployment of additional firefighting teams and equipment, increasing the total number of crews to six. Streets and pedestrian access points in the vicinity were cordoned off by local police to ensure the safety of emergency responders.
Despite the intensity of the situation, no injuries have been reported, and emergency services successfully evacuated over 100 guests from the hotel. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, although local sources suggest a possible connection to the adjacent restaurant.
