Another individual was shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, adding to the distress in the city, with attempts to shift blame towards Joe Biden by the government.
Recent reports disclosed that a man was shot in the leg by an ICE agent in the northern part of Minneapolis, shortly after Renee Good, a mother of three, was tragically shot and killed. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that a man tried to escape from a “targeted traffic stop,” resulting in a car crash, followed by fleeing on foot. The government alleged that two individuals approached the ICE agent with a snow shovel and broom handle, leading to the agent shooting one of them in the leg out of fear for his safety.
The DHS, overseen by Trump ally Kristi Noem, managed to link the incident to the former President, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, in an effort to deflect responsibility for the turmoil in the city.
In a statement issued by the DHS after the incident, the opening line read: “At 6:50 PM CT, federal law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted traffic stop in Minneapolis of an illegal alien from Venezuela who was released into the country by Joe Biden in 2022.”
Mentioning Biden’s name came as a surprise, and the continuous efforts by Trump to implicate the ex-President, who has been out of politics for a year, have been met with criticism.
Unsurprisingly, supporters of Trump ensured to divert attention from the actions of ICE in Minneapolis and instead took a political stance against the former administration.
The Democratic governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, and the Democratic mayor, Jacob Frey, also faced criticism from the Trump administration after two federal agents resorted to using firearms in Minneapolis.
The DHS statement further stated: “This attack on another brave member of law enforcement took place while Minnesota’s top leaders, Governor Walz and Mayor Frey, are actively encouraging an organized resistance to ICE and federal law enforcement officers.”
“Their hostile rhetoric and opposition to individuals simply carrying out their duties must cease. Federal law enforcement officers are experiencing a significant increase in assaults as they risk their lives to apprehend criminals and violators of the law.”
The US deputy attorney general, Todd Blanche, went as far as labeling the leadership of the governor and mayor as “terrorism.” In a provocative statement focusing on two Democratic leaders rather than the actions of ICE agents, he mentioned: “ICE operates in thousands of counties without incident. Men and women performing their duties, safeguarding us from criminal aliens.
“The unrest in Minnesota is a direct consequence of an ineffective governor and a poor mayor promoting violence against law enforcement. It’s reprehensible. Walz and Frey – I am committed to stopping YOUR terrorism by any means necessary. This is not a threat. It’s a commitment.”
Mayor Frey stood against intimidation from Washington and criticized ICE, stating that the contentious agency was causing disorder across Minnesota. Local residents are evidently frustrated and fearful of the increasing presence of ICE agents in their city – the Trump administration reported sending approximately 3,000 additional officers in recent weeks.
Massive protests erupted following the tragic death of Renee Good after she was fatally shot while dropping her son off at school. Trump and his supporters labeled her a “domestic terrorist” in a disgraceful attack on a deceased individual, with JD Vance even describing the incident as “a tragedy of her own making.”
Despite claims that the mother attempted to run over ICE agent Renee Good in an unprovoked manner, bodycam footage from the agent released two days later cast doubt on many of those assertions.
Subsequent protests after the recent shooting saw federal agents deploying tear gas and pepper balls against locals who were fed up with their city being overrun by groups of immigration agents who conceal their identities as they detain and shoot individuals.
The aggressive response to protesters and the blatant efforts to shift blame onto Joe Biden illustrate how Trump and his followers continue to politicize a tragic event and ongoing distress in the afflicted city.
