ICE Detains 5-Year-Old in Minneapolis

Date:

A resident of Minneapolis described the city as being in a state of extreme distress after reports emerged of a young child being apprehended by ICE.

The actions of ICE drew widespread attention recently when allegations surfaced that a five-year-old boy had been taken into custody in Minnesota and allegedly used as bait to lure his family out of their residence. An official from The Columbia Heights Public School District disclosed that Liam Conejo Ramos, a five-year-old, was intercepted by masked individuals in his driveway upon returning home from school with his father.

According to neighbor Vanessa Mullenix, the targeting of children by ICE and the exploitation of minors to coerce their families out of their homes has plunged the community into a state of profound despair. Mullenix expressed deep sorrow over the situation, stating that it is truly heart-wrenching.

During his visit to Minnesota on the same day, Vice President JD Vance defended the operation in a speech, asserting that the child was not detained and that the incident was part of a broader effort to apprehend his father, Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias.

In response to criticism, Vance questioned the necessity of detaining a five-year-old, emphasizing the importance of upholding the law in the United States. He challenged the notion that ICE should allow a young child to be in a perilous situation and highlighted the duty to enforce immigration laws.

Mullenix, a fellow resident of Columbia Heights, expressed her profound dismay at the circumstances, voicing concern for the safety of her family, friends, and neighbors. Another community member mentioned that a local school had shifted to online learning to ensure the well-being of students who felt unsafe attending in person, deeming such measures as regrettable but necessary.

The Columbia Heights Public School District confirmed yesterday that four of its students had been detained by federal authorities in separate incidents over the past two weeks. Mullenix and Kelly Tromsten, another resident, reflected on the community’s struggle to comprehend the shocking events that have thrust their city into the global spotlight.

Tromsten expressed disbelief at the distortion of facts surrounding the incidents, condemning the manipulation of the narrative as appalling. She questioned the need for further evidence, emphasizing the clarity of the situation and the lack of justification for prolonging the scrutiny.
