A video circulating online allegedly captures the moment when a man, claimed to be a Venezuelan immigrant by the Department for Homeland Security (DHS), was shot in the leg by an ICE officer after a traffic stop in Minneapolis. This incident follows the recent fatal shooting of Renee Good, inciting protests in the city.
The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, was taken to the hospital after the shooting and can be heard screaming for help in a newly posted video. The footage depicts individuals inside a residence, speaking in Spanish, appearing to make a frantic 911 call, alleging that ICE agents pursued the injured man to his home after a 30-minute chase.
According to reports, the ICE agent allegedly attempted to shoot the man as he ran towards his house, even firing shots in the direction of the property where children were present. Distressed voices in the video can be heard pleading for help, emphasizing the presence of children and the unjust nature of the incident.
In response to the widespread condemnation and protests, the DHS stated that the man had tried to evade a targeted traffic stop and was identified as an undocumented immigrant from Venezuela who entered the US in 2022 under Joe Biden’s administration. The DHS spokesperson claimed the ICE agent shot the man in self-defense as he was allegedly ambushed by three individuals during the altercation.
After the shooting, the man and two others sought refuge in an apartment building before being hospitalized. The injured man is reportedly receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, as confirmed by authorities.
