Ikea has announced the discontinuation of select items from the popular Malm flat-pack furniture line, which has been in existence for nearly 25 years. The phased removal of certain pieces from the Malm bedroom furniture collection will commence this summer, with a complete phase-out by 2027.
The Swedish retailer emphasized that the outgoing Malm range will be replaced with new options tailored to modern preferences and requirements. Prices for Malm products start at £15 for a glass top and £49 for a chest of drawers, with a full bedroom set, including a bed frame and four chests of drawers, priced at £426.
In response to the changes, an Ikea spokesperson stated, “We understand the significance our products hold in homes worldwide and are dedicated to aligning with contemporary lifestyles.” As a result, global discontinuations within the Malm range will pave the way for fresh offerings that cater to current consumer needs.
Customers have expressed mixed reactions to the news on platforms like Reddit, with some sharing their long-standing positive experiences with Malm furniture. Following this development, Ikea introduced a new promotion exclusively for Family members, offering a 50% discount on main meals every Wednesday until June 24. This initiative, dubbed “Little Saturday” or Lillördag in Swedish, celebrates the midpoint of the week.
Included in the promotional menu are various affordable meal options, such as pasta with tomato sauce for £1.45, mac and cheese for £2.25, and meatballs and chips for £2.95. Additionally, exclusive £5 homeware deals and monthly discounts on selected products are available in-store every Wednesday, with a 20% discount on specific items in May.
