A 28-year-old inmate passed away following an alleged assault by another prisoner in a British penitentiary.
Law enforcement initiated a murder investigation after being summoned to Addenbrookes’ Hospital in Cambridge on a Tuesday morning. The victim, a detainee at HMP Highpoint Prison, was hospitalized for injuries sustained during the incident and subsequently succumbed to them. Police were alerted to the situation upon the man’s demise.
The assault reportedly occurred on January 23 when the victim was purportedly attacked by a fellow inmate. Suffolk Police disclosed that the victim had initially been treated at the hospital before being discharged back to the prison. However, his condition deteriorated, leading to his readmission to the hospital where he later died.
A post-mortem examination by the Home Office is scheduled for later today.
A man in his twenties has been apprehended on suspicion of murder and taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre.
Suffolk Police are treating the occurrence as a homicide investigation while actively conducting inquiries in collaboration with HMP Highpoint.
