A bear with advanced abilities has escaped in Japan after attacking four individuals in Fukushima. The highly intelligent animal roamed through an office complex and a factory, causing chaos. Surveillance footage captured the bear pursuing and assaulting a worker in a company parking lot before being deterred by a passing motorist.
Subsequently, the bear sought refuge in an office building where it assaulted another person before fleeing again. The bear then inflicted injuries on two more individuals before entering an electronics factory, where it surprised onlookers by operating a tap with its paws to drink water.
Tranquilizer-equipped experts were dispatched to the factory, setting up traps at the entrance to capture the elusive bear. Despite these efforts, the cunning creature managed to evade capture by unlatching a locked window and fleeing the scene. Mayor Yuki Baba described the bear as exceptionally intelligent, citing its ability to manipulate the environment.
Despite attempts by government officials, police, hunters, and drones to locate the bear, it remains at large as of Friday. Mayor Baba emphasized the need for caution in dealing with the agitated bear and assured continued efforts to ensure public safety.
Following the incident, local schools were temporarily closed as a precaution, with teachers taking extra measures to secure windows and doors. The encounter underscores the growing issue of human-bear conflicts in Japan, with changes in food sources, climate, and rural populations contributing to the rise in such incidents.
Recent adjustments to gun laws in Japan permit emergency firing in residential areas to address bear threats.
