Iran has emphasized that Donald Trump’s words will not deter it from its non-negotiable “red lines,” which include the rights to enrich and possess uranium. Ebrahim Azizi, the head of Iran’s National Security Committee, asserted this stance following remarks by the US president suggesting Iran’s willingness for a peace deal but not meeting US expectations.
During a recent cabinet meeting, Trump expressed dissatisfaction with a proposed deal but indicated optimism for reaching a satisfactory agreement or resorting to other measures to address the situation.
Azizi highlighted Iran’s red lines as encompassing the rights to enrich uranium, possess enriched uranium, control the Strait of Hormuz, and have sanctions lifted. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged some progress in peace negotiations between the US and Iran, underscoring the importance of continued diplomatic efforts.
Rubio stressed that if diplomatic means do not yield results, alternative options will be considered, with a firm commitment that Iran will not acquire nuclear weapons.
