Iran’s demands to President Trump have been revealed after a ceasefire agreement, which includes a hefty $2 million per ship fee to utilize the Strait of Hormuz. A deal was reached between Washington and Tehran to prevent further escalation of conflict in the Middle East.
President Trump had set a deadline for a deal, warning of dire consequences if an agreement was not reached. However, at the last moment, he announced a cancellation of the planned attack, an immediate ceasefire, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz on Truth Social.
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump confirmed the suspension of bombing and attacks on Iran for two weeks, emphasizing a bilateral ceasefire. Iran’s 10-point proposal outlined various terms, including guarantees of non-aggression, an end to the war, cessation of Israeli strikes in Lebanon, lifting of US sanctions, and cessation of regional fighting against Iranian allies.
The agreement also involved Iran opening the Strait of Hormuz, imposing a $2 million fee per ship, sharing these fees with Oman, providing safe passage rules through the Strait, and using the fees for reconstruction.
Iran’s Foreign Minister announced that a ceasefire would be accepted if attacks against Iran ceased. This would allow safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks, coordinated with Iran’s Armed Forces and considering technical limitations.
After calls from politicians to extend the deadline for diplomacy, including from Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the ceasefire agreement was reached. Questions linger over Trump’s decisions leading to the agreement, with some calling for his removal from office.
The White House hailed the ceasefire as a victory for the US, attributing it to Trump’s leadership and military prowess. The successful negotiations have paved the way for a diplomatic solution, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is seen as a significant achievement.
