Iran’s Sleeper Cells Pose Threat to Europe

Date:

Concerns are growing over the possibility of Iran launching attacks on European soil as reports suggest dormant cells scattered across the continent may be activated to cause turmoil.

Following the approval of severe airstrikes on Iran by Donald Trump and an Israeli official, remnants of Tehran’s leadership have urgently retaliated by launching missiles and drones at allies of the United States. This assault led to the elimination of Iran’s top officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In response, Iran targeted Arab nations, Israel, and even the British air base on Cyprus with missiles and drones, such as the powerful Khorramshahr 4 missile, capable of reaching distances between 1,242 and 1,864 miles carrying a destructive payload.

Experts warn that these missiles could potentially strike cities like Rome, Copenhagen, Budapest, and Athens. Dr. Sidharth Kaushal, a senior researcher at the Royal United Services Institute, highlighted that the Khorramshahr 4 missile technology draws from North Korean designs, suggesting its potential use as a nuclear warhead carrier.

Despite previous claims by Trump about disabling Iran’s nuclear ambitions, concerns remain regarding the possibility of Iran developing weapons of mass destruction. Additionally, Shahed suicide drones, with a range of 1,242 miles, could pose a threat to European regions including Greece, Italy, Germany, Poland, and Denmark.

The ongoing airstrikes by the US and Israel have heightened fears of potential retaliatory actions by Iran, including the activation of sleeper terror cells in Europe to conduct attacks on various targets.

Marc Henrichmann, a member of the German parliament’s intelligence committee, emphasized the broader implications of the Middle East conflict, cautioning against the possibility of Iranian sleeper cells operating in Europe as part of Tehran’s response strategy.

Public sentiment in the US shows mixed reactions to the military actions against Iran, with only a quarter of Americans supporting Trump’s decisions, while a significant portion expresses disapproval or uncertainty, according to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll.
