Irish firefighter Terence Crosbie has been convicted of rape at Suffolk Superior Court in Boston after a trial that lasted five days. The 39-year-old was found guilty of raping a 29-year-old woman during the St. Patrick’s Day festivities in March 2024. Following over 15 hours of deliberation, the jury reached a verdict, and Crosbie is set to be sentenced on October 30.
During the court proceedings, Crosbie’s family and friends, present in the front row of the gallery, became emotional upon hearing the verdict. Crosbie was apprehended from an Aer Lingus flight shortly after being questioned by Boston Police Department detectives. It was revealed in court that Crosbie had initially booked a flight to Dublin for 10:10 pm on March 16, 2024, but upon arrival at Logan Airport, he discovered an unlisted 6:30 pm flight and opted for the earlier departure.
The victim, who met Crosbie’s hotel roommate at a Boston pub on the night of the incident, recounted engaging in conversation, dancing, and kissing with him. They later returned to the Omni Parker House hotel, where they engaged in sexual activity. The victim reported waking up to a different man with an Irish accent assaulting her, clarifying that it was not the roommate with whom she had consensual sex earlier.
After leaving the hotel, the victim messaged her friend detailing the events of the night, including the alleged assault. Crosbie denied the accusations, stating he did not rape the woman and had minimal interaction with her. Video evidence from the pub, street, and hotel was presented during the trial, showing Crosbie’s movements.
Despite DNA experts testifying that there was no identifiable DNA evidence linking Crosbie to the assault, the jury, comprised of six men and six women, found him guilty of raping the woman. Crosbie is awaiting sentencing scheduled for October 30.
