Israel has initiated an “offensive campaign” against the Iran-backed Hezbollah group in the midst of escalating tensions in the Middle East. Following joint US-Israel strikes on Iran and the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran retaliated with strikes across the Gulf.
Reports indicate that Hezbollah’s political leader, Mohammad Raad, was allegedly killed in an Israeli airstrike. The Israel Defense Forces spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Ella Waweya, confirmed the launch of the campaign on Monday, March 2, emphasizing the offensive nature of the operation.
Major General Eyal Zamir stated, “We have launched an offensive battle against Hezbollah,” highlighting the proactive stance taken by Israel. The military is preparing for an extended period of conflict, focusing on both defensive and offensive strategies to address the evolving situation.
Recent Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon resulted in casualties, with 31 reported dead and 149 wounded. Israeli authorities issued evacuation warnings to residents in multiple towns and villages neighboring Lebanon in anticipation of further attacks in response to rocket fire from Hezbollah towards Israel.
