John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to influence its future direction.
Commencing on October 1, as detailed in a recent news release, Tory’s tenure coincides with this year’s festival taking place from September 10 to 20. He takes over from Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position since 2021. Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, expressing enduring pride in his role in the festival’s evolution.
Additionally, TIFF announced the addition of three new members to its board of directors: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Conversely, Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, is stepping down. TIFF conveyed its sincere gratitude to Daniere for her significant service and contributions to the organization.
