“Journalist Reacts to Gunfire Outside White House”

Date:

A journalist reacted swiftly to gunfire outside the White House as a gunman unleashed bullets, prompting a chaotic scene.

The incident unfolded when an individual approached a security checkpoint at the White House, drew a weapon from a bag, and began firing shots at officers stationed there. Law enforcement officers swiftly engaged, striking the assailant, later identified as 21-year-old Nasire Best, who succumbed to his injuries after being taken to a hospital. President Donald Trump mentioned that the suspect had a history of violence.

A dramatic video captured the moment the attack began, coinciding with ABC News’ senior White House correspondent Selina Wang hearing gunshots while on camera.

The footage showed Wang discussing President Trump’s earlier statements about a potential Iran deal just before chaos erupted.

In a social media post, Wang recounted the harrowing experience, mentioning the barrage of gunshots she heard, with fear evident in her widening eyes as she swiftly sought cover in a media tent situated on the White House driveway.

Describing the unsettling moment, Wang stated, “I was recording a video on my iPhone on the White House North Lawn when we heard the gunshots. It sounded like numerous shots. We were instructed to quickly move to the press briefing room, where we are currently stationed.”

Following the gunfire, the White House was placed on lockdown for an hour. Several other journalists were also present at the White House during the incident, which occurred around 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Images from inside the building depicted reporters confined indoors, peering through windows at the White House to observe the response from the Secret Service.

During the altercation, a bystander sustained critical injuries. It remained uncertain whether the individual was hit by the suspect’s bullets or law enforcement fire, as per a statement from a law enforcement official.

The Secret Service confirmed that none of its officers were harmed, and President Trump, who was present at the White House during the incident, was not affected.
