“Killer who boasted of teen’s murder to be moved to open prison”

Date:

A convict who heartlessly glorified his killing of an innocent teenager is scheduled to be transferred to an open penitentiary. Jake Fahri, aged 19 at the time, received a life sentence in 2009, with a minimum term of 14 years, for fatally injuring schoolboy Jimmy Mizen in a south London bakery by hurling a glass oven dish at him, causing severe neck injuries. Witnesses observed Fahri grinning as he exited the shop.

After his release on parole in June 2023, Fahri was brought back into custody in January 2025 upon discovery that he had released drill music containing lyrics boasting about the murder. Allegations suggested that Fahri was the masked drill artist known as Ten, featured on BBC 1Xtra, and that one of his tracks on Spotify and YouTube seemed to allude to Jimmy’s demise. A recent Parole Board summary revealed Fahri denied his music was autobiographical, but later confessed to being the rapper Ten.

The Parole Board panel found Fahri’s lack of transparency regarding his music and breaches of his license conditions troubling. Despite Fahri’s claim of ignorance regarding the restrictions, evidence from his probation officer contradicted this assertion. Although Fahri and professional witnesses advocated for his release during a hearing, Justice Secretary David Lammy opposed it, contending it was unsafe for public protection.

The Parole Board decision expressed doubts about Fahri’s readiness for release, emphasizing the need for him to reflect on his conduct and attitudes. They recommended his progression to an open prison for self-reflection.

In response to the recent decision, Margaret, Jimmy’s mother, expressed her approval of keeping Fahri within the prison system. Open prisons have reduced security measures and allow eligible inmates to be out on license for work or educational purposes. The final decision on Fahri’s case rests with Justice Secretary David Lammy. The Mirror has reached out to the Parole Board and Ministry of Justice for comments.
