“King and Queen of England Kick Off First-Ever Visit to Belfast”

Date:

The King and Queen commenced an unexpected visit to Northern Ireland today. Charles and Camilla arrived in Belfast for a three-day stay, during which they will participate in various community activities.

They initiated their journey by exploring sections of the Titanic Quarter, a prominent tourist spot in the city. During their visit, the couple enjoyed a lively showcase of the area’s music, artistry, and heritage.

They engaged with event organizers and performers to celebrate the arrival of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Belfast this August, a first-time occurrence. The Fleadh is renowned as the largest festival globally for traditional Irish music, songs, and dances.

A spokesperson from Buckingham Palace expressed, “The King and Queen are pleased to revisit Northern Ireland. This visit will allow Their Majesties to reconnect with the people of Northern Ireland, whom they deeply respect and cherish.”

Notable artists slated for the 2026 event include musician Sharon Shannon and her Big Band, headlining the main stage outside Belfast City Hall on the opening day.

Additional acts scheduled to perform on the prestigious Gig Rig stage at the opening ceremony include award-winning ensemble Goitse, the Blackwater Ceili Band, and Belfast group McPeake.

The lineup features school choirs, along with diverse and multicultural performances, offering a day of complimentary entertainment and setting the tone for a week of intergenerational celebrations across the city.

The event, showcasing traditional music, songs, dances, and language from August 2 to 9, is anticipated to draw over 800,000 attendees.

Charles visited Northern Ireland frequently as the Prince of Wales and has continued to do so as King.
