A man wielding a knife was captured on video outside a family’s residence as he repeatedly slashed at the air with a large blade. Rebecca Breen and her husband, residents of Arden in Sacramento, California, were at home watching TV around 8:30 pm when their doorbell camera alerted them to the alarming situation.
The couple was shocked by the scene unfolding on their doorstep. Breen described seeing a stranger holding a knife and making stabbing motions towards their front door, which left them terrified. Concerned for their safety, they contacted emergency services while other neighbors also reported sightings of the armed man, causing panic in the area.
Deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office quickly responded to the scene, but the suspect had already fled. A police helicopter was deployed to locate the man, who managed to evade capture initially. However, he was eventually apprehended on Saturday morning and released after being charged with criminal trespassing.
Although the man had been seen wielding knives at doors, fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. Residents were commended for securing their homes, staying indoors, and promptly contacting law enforcement. While Breen believes their home was not specifically targeted, she expressed unease over the randomness of the attack, emphasizing the unsettling feeling that it could happen to anyone.
The neighborhood was left shaken by the late-night episode, especially after the man was arrested and subsequently released back into the community. Some residents expressed frustration over a perceived lack of response from private security and slow communication from authorities following the ordeal, heightening the fear stemming from the alarming incident.
